Is there something like the best solution or the perfect choice ?

Life is full of decision points. On the personal side, on the career side...

Every day, a person needs to consider a set of inputs, process the data, evaluate against a target and then finally decide ! The final step is the most complicated to explain. It is medically also a very challenging research to decipher the decision making process - the marvel of our brain..

From my point of view, to make things simple, decision making is nothing but an approach, fine tuned over time, sharpened with experiences, reinforced with knowledge, dependent on a risk appetite.

I would dare to say that no two decision making thought process is ever the same. I strongly feel, it is as unique as a fingerprint. Given these facts, is there or can there be the perfect decision or the best solution !!
Surely not. It is a myth to find the best solution for a problem. Even if a person spends more time, applies more experience, makes the best possible judgement, it could always be that there could have been a better solution.

It is important to understand this very clearly. There is only a best compromise, never a best solution. Given the span of control, given the most important set of parameters, given the minimum goal, given the constraints of decision making, a solution is arrived at.

It is good to look back at decision, but only to learn from them, sharpen your wisdom, but not to brood over it.

A simple example: I am now planning to book for a holiday to Gran Canaria with my family. I have been indecisive about it. Reason: I want the cheapest price, best hotel, great weather, zero mistakes, closest beach, warm pool, family friendly, but between mid march to end march.

It is not possible to satisfy all these constraints and the most practical approach is the make the best compromise..

So, there are only best comprises; for simplicity, known as the best solution or the perfect choice !!

Packaged Milk in Germany

I currently stay in Germany due to an assignment. I will stay here for around 3 years. My family is settled with me and we are getting used to the German style and cost of living...

Well, German Engineering is known for quality and perfection. Made in Germany is an envious label on any product.. But, is this now still the case.. I cannot generalize anything, but would like to mention an observation on this note..

With my two young kids, my family consumes a lot of milk. We buy the packaged fresh milk, this is the nearest product available to fresh milk. Of course, there is no milkman who can deliver fresh milk out of his steel container..

Now, for the sake of statistics, my observation below has the occurrence of once out of ten packages. This is 10% probability of occurrence..

My wife sometimes finds hair of the cow in the milk. It is anybody's guess that the hair is from the milking process. I am not sure, but I certainly assume that milking of Cow in Germany is mechanised and not manual as in India. So, don't we get better quality and perfection.. Any sane thinking should affirm this assumption.. Maybe it is also true if you consider all parameters of quality, but strangely in India, I have never heard my wife telling me that she found hair of the cow in the milk packet !!

So, a simple quote from this incident is that "over attention on perfection does not necessarily lead to better quality - it could be counter-active sometimes.."

Why another blog ?

Is it not a trend, a fashion, a craze, an addiction, a waste to create another blog ?

There are loads and loads of blogs on the internet highway, so why am I creating another one...

Does anyone read them at all ? Am I interested in a hit rate, am I interested in adsense, am I interested to be found in Google seaches ?

Well, I would leave these questions unanswered, just go ahead and read my blog, if it interests you...

In this blog, I would like to pen my thoughts on the two most important attributes of success for me: Perfection and Quality.

Well, Perfection and Quality does not spell Success, but are, for me, essential ingredients in any action, work, product.

So, let me dwelve regularly into my thoughts on the quotients for Success.. Comment if you like to share your thoughts...
