Is there something like the best solution or the perfect choice ?
Life is full of decision points. On the personal side, on the career side...
Every day, a person needs to consider a set of inputs, process the data, evaluate against a target and then finally decide ! The final step is the most complicated to explain. It is medically also a very challenging research to decipher the decision making process - the marvel of our brain..
From my point of view, to make things simple, decision making is nothing but an approach, fine tuned over time, sharpened with experiences, reinforced with knowledge, dependent on a risk appetite.
I would dare to say that no two decision making thought process is ever the same. I strongly feel, it is as unique as a fingerprint. Given these facts, is there or can there be the perfect decision or the best solution !!
Surely not. It is a myth to find the best solution for a problem. Even if a person spends more time, applies more experience, makes the best possible judgement, it could always be that there could have been a better solution.
It is important to understand this very clearly. There is only a best compromise, never a best solution. Given the span of control, given the most important set of parameters, given the minimum goal, given the constraints of decision making, a solution is arrived at.
It is good to look back at decision, but only to learn from them, sharpen your wisdom, but not to brood over it.
A simple example: I am now planning to book for a holiday to Gran Canaria with my family. I have been indecisive about it. Reason: I want the cheapest price, best hotel, great weather, zero mistakes, closest beach, warm pool, family friendly, but between mid march to end march.
It is not possible to satisfy all these constraints and the most practical approach is the make the best compromise..
So, there are only best comprises; for simplicity, known as the best solution or the perfect choice !!
